Heart Health

I had a friend die last week, about 3 days after I saw him walking and talking  and looking fine. He had the history of heart attacks, high blood pressure and  type 2 diabetes. He had access to all of the best care and had cardiac stents places twice. Most recently about 6 months ago after another cardiac event. Then, this. Just gone at 58 years old. Soo sad, I can’t reconcile this. Then as I received my email update from the Gaples Institute and read the article summaries, I could not believe how much more this information would have helped him instead of the cardiologist just looking at the numbers and putting stents in. These generate the trans fats that have been most highly correlated with both insulin resistance (type 2 diabetes) and risk of heart attack and stroke.

The studies suggest that over 80% of coronary heart disease, 70% of stroke, and 90% of type 2 diabetes can be avoided by healthy food choices that are consistent with the traditional Mediterranean diet.
