These are organic plant compounds that promote human health. These are consumed in fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes and soy. Increased consumption of these phytochemicals has been shown to decrease the incidence of chronic disease.

Some of these include indoles, flavonoids,  isoflavones, carotenoids, lycopene, resveratrol, lignans.

Lignans more specifically are found in flaxseeds in much larger amounts than many other plant based foods. These are a major class of phytoestrogens. The lignans are from the outer coat of the seeds and woody parts of the plant walls. The breakdown products of the lignans have been shown to decrease the risk of breast cancer and have a protective effect against cardiovascular disease. They are also protective against prostate and colorectal cancer.

It is appropriate for men to eat fresh ground flax seed for protection of the prostate; however, they should not ingest flax seed oil. As the oil has no or minimal lignans and can increase the risk of benign prostatic hypertrophy and prostate cancer.

The flax seed should be ground freshly, about every week. You can do this in a coffee grinder. Place the fresh ground seed in the fridge or freezer in a container and you can eat about 1 or 2 tablespoons per day.

Once you grind the flax seed, it will immediately start to oxidize from the omega 3 fatty acids to omega 6 fatty acids. So buy in smaller amounts.

It is a widespread chronic pain that has been present for more than 6 months in duration.

It is associated with foggy thinking, forgetfulness, anxiety, stiffness, fatigue and diffuse tenderness.

It is not very responsive to opioids as it is not due to a lack of endogenous opioids, it is more a dysfunction or amping up of the central nervous system response to normal and noxious stimuli.

Therefore, treatment is focused more on the seratonin aspect of the nervous system.

Helpful treatments:

Rhodiola 300 to 600mg daily.

B6, B12, Folate,

Cognitive behavioral therapy.

Improved sleep hygiene and diet.

Conventional treatment for autoimmune  and inflammatory problems suppresses the disease process rather than encouraging healing. It would be best to try to focus on the healing aspect of diet and health and use the conventional treatments only for severe episodes. The goal is to manage symptoms so that quality of life is maintained, but to prevent dependance on the toxic drugs and the severe immune suppression. Come for a consultation to find out what kind of integrative options might be available to formulate an individual plan of care for you.

Folic Acid, B 9

Folic acid is necessary for normal neurological function, healthy red blood cells, prevention of anemia, repair of DNA. It is water soluble. It is converted by the body to tetrahydrofolate to become metabolically active.

The best way to get folate is by eating dark  green leafy vegetables. However, in our typical western diet, we get more of it from cereals that are fortified with folic acid.

Deficiency can take months to present itself and will cause symptoms like diarrhea, macrocytic anemia, weakness, numbness in the legs or hands, clouded thinking depression, sore swollen tongue, heart palpitations and elevated homocysteine levels.

For pregnant women and the developing baby, folate is critical for the formation of the nervous system.

Platelet Rich Plasma

Proliferant therapy with platelet rich plasma gives a more aggressive healing effect. The platelets in the buffy coat of the plasma have the growth hormones that promote healing, so it will give you a more rapid healing effect. It is time consuming and rather expensive because of the process of spinning your blood to get the sample.
